Training information ESA-E5

EBR-ESA-E5 Industry & Installation is of great importance for everyone who works on or near electrical installations within the industry and installation sector.

Employers who have chosen to apply EBR ESA use the EBR system to organize their electrical safety work. EBR is a best practice developed over more than half a century. Personnel within the organization need training to understand how safe work is achieved for those working practically in the electrical field.

The training is based on the publication EBR ESA Industry & Installation 2021, which contains safety instructions for the maintenance of and work on or adjacent to electrical installations within industry and installation. By following these guidelines and regulations, employers and employees can ensure a safe working environment, reduce the risk of electrical accidents, and fulfill statutory electrical safety requirements.

Those who follow EBR ESA fulfill requirements based on the Work Environment Act and the Electrical Safety Act. EBR ESA serves as a supplement to standards and specifies roles and responsibilities within electrical installations and industries.

The training shall comprise at least 8 hours of theoretical instruction. Basic training must be instructor-led and conducted physically on-site. Refresher training can be conducted either instructor-led on-site or via digital instructor-led sessions. The training may have a maximum of 16 participants per session.

For whom?

The training is aimed at those who will lead, perform, or plan electrical work on or adjacent to high-voltage electrical installations, such as electrical installations in heating plants, workshops, residences, shops, offices, industry, and similar environments.

Prerequisites

Participants who are to perform electrical work on or adjacent to high-voltage electrical installations must have sufficient knowledge of electricity to be able to benefit from the training.

Objectives

After the training, the participant shall be able to apply the theoretical content of the ESA Industry & Installation publication and translate the knowledge into daily practical work, thereby avoiding risks associated with working with electric current. The participant shall also have completed the training with a passing final examination.

Upon completion of the training, the participant shall be able to

  • understand the allocation of responsibility according to work environment and electrical safety legislation
  • understand and be able to apply ESA functions
  • understand and be able to apply safe communication
  • understand and be able to apply risk management
  • understand what an operational measure is and when it transitions into planned work under one of the work methods
  • understand the working methods “Work in proximity to live parts”, “Dead work”, and “Live work”, and their limitations
  • understand what applies to the ESA form Agreement on access
  • understand what constitutes non-electrical work.

Training certificate

The certificate issued to participants after a passing final examination is called “EBR-ESA-E5 Industry and Installation”. It is valid for three years, which means a refresher requirement every three years.
